Washburn House is a substance abuse treatment center in Worcester, Massachusetts. We meet you where you are in your addiction and/or recovery journey. Worcester is about 53 miles from Springfield and 100 miles from Pittsfield, and there are many advantages to our programs that make the trip worthwhile. Several of our treatment options allow you to stay connected to your home community in Western MA or experience it in a new way. They also remove you from the triggers that might have dragged you into addiction in the first place.

Medically Monitored Detox

Our medical detox program is you a safe, welcoming environment where you can clear the poison from your system. You’ll receive ‘round-the-clock support from doctors and nurses with years of experience. Our medical staff will make detox as comfortable as possible and intervene if your withdrawal symptoms are dangerous.

Inpatient Drug Rehab

Inpatient drug rehab is a residential program, meaning you live at our facility in Worcester, MA and receive 24-hour care. In this environment, you can devote all of your attention to getting healthy. You’ll receive individual and group therapy, led by Masters-level clinicians.

Day Treatment

Day treatment is a partial hospitalization program (PHP) that consists of six hours of therapy, five days each week. It’s an outpatient treatment program, so you can return home to Western Massachusetts each day, if you like. This makes it ideal if you still need to tend to responsibilities at home or you’re looking for a smooth transition back into the community.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our intensive outpatient treatment program is our lowest level of care. You spend most of your time at home but have three hours of group therapy at Washburn House, three days per week. You’ll also receive individual therapy. This option provides a sense of community and support from group therapy, and you get to remain a part of your home community in Western MA.

How Far Is Washburn House from Western Massachusetts?

The cities of Springfield and Chicopee are approximately 50 miles from Washburn House, or about a 1-hour drive. Northampton is 63 miles from Worcester and just over an hour’s drive. Pittsfield is 96 miles from Worcester—a drive of about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

To take public transportation from Western MA, the Greyhound Boston line runs from Pittsfield through the Springfield/Chicopee area. Get off at the Worcester stop.

From Springfield, you can also take a Peter Pan bus on the 6714 Boston line to Worcester. The 19 bus route will take you from Union Station to the Main Street and Wayne Street stop, which is just across the street from our rehab center.

Does Washburn House Provide Transportation to and from Western MA?

What Fun, Sober Activities Can I Find in Western MA?

To stay sober after you return home, you’ll need to find things to do that don’t involve drugs and alcohol. Fortunately, Western Massachusetts is an expansive area with lots of opportunities to help you live life to the fullest. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Head Outdoors

The Berkshires contain endless opportunities to explore the great outdoors. You can hike part of the Appalachian Trail, learn to ski at Otis Ridge, go fishing or boating on Lake Buel, or spot wildlife in Beartown State Forest. There are also plenty of opportunities for water sports like kayaking and white-water rafting. Many of the best hiking opportunities around the area are free!

Explore Easthampton Bookfest

If you’re bookish at all, be sure to check out Easthampton Bookfest, devoted to all things literary. Attend open houses and workshops; listen to readings from local poets and authors; and browse an endless selection of publications, many from independent publishers. It’s a great way to get involved in Western MA’s literary community. Events are family-friendly and free!

Are There Drug and Alcohol Support Groups in Western MA?

Yes, there are many support groups for those in recovery from substance abuse throughout Western MA. You can visit the websites for Alcoholics AnonymousNarcotics Anonymous, and Cocaine Anonymous to find meeting locations.

Celebrate Recovery® and SMART Recovery® (a 12-step alternative) are other support group options in the area.
